A ‘Britannia’ Class 4-6-2 heads an express freight in the Lune Gorge in August 1965 on the main line from Crewe to Carlisle.  The train is approaching Tebay, at which point it will begin the 1 in 80 climb over Shap Fell.  If this picture were to be taken today, one would be standing in the middle of the southbound carriageway of the M6 motorway!
