Ex-BR ‘Britannia’ Class 4-6-2 No. 70013 ‘Oliver Cromwell’ is crossing the Royal Border Bridge at Berwick-upon-Tweed (about 2½ miles south of the English – Scottish border) with the final part of Day 1 of ‘GB5’ from London to Edinburgh on 21st April 2012.  The ‘Britannia’ Class was introduced by Riddles in 1951 as modern express motive power for the recently nationalised British Railways.  Due to the rapid replacement of steam by diesel, the Class had a relatively short life and, apart from 70013, were all withdrawn by the end of 1967.
