British Railways eliminated steam on August 3rd 1968 from its last area of steam activity in the North West of England.  Fittingly evocative is this view of an ex-LMS Class 5 4-6-0 crossing Arnside Viaduct on its way with the last steam hauled working of the evening parcels train from Barrow to Preston on August 2nd 1968.
