In August 1987, ex_GWR Manor Class 4-6-0 No.7819 ‘Hinton Manor’ crosses the bridge over the Mawddach Estuary approaching Barmouth with Cadair Idris in the background. This was one of a series of special trains re-creating a 1950’s atmosphere over the Cambrian Coast line. The bridge is of wooden construction and faced closure in the 1970’s due to the poor condition of the timbers, but repairs were made to keep it open.
