The privately operated ‘heritage’ Swanage Railway runs inland from the south coast resort of Swanage, currently to just beyond Corfe Castle. On 11th August 2013, ex-SR ‘M7’ Class 0-4-4T 30053 is heading towards Swanage, with Corfe Castle prominent behind. Built by Willaim the Conqueror in the 11th century, Corfe Castle was demolished to the ruin seen today during the English Civil War in March 1645 on Parliament’s orders. The ‘M7’ tank engines were designed by Drummond in 1897, and this very loco could have been seen working in this location up until 1964.
