The ex-SR mainline to Exeter is a shadow of its former self, with many single line sections. However, steam can still occasionally be seen tackling the 1 in 80 climb to Honiton Tunnel. On 7th April 2013, ex-SR ‘Battle of Britain’ Class 4-6-2 No. 34067 ‘Tangmere’ is appropriate motive power as it approaches the tunnel with the Railway Touring Company ‘Atlantic Coast Express’, which retraced the route from Waterloo to Exeter of the train of that name in the days of regular steam up to 1964.
