On a number of years, special trains are worked to South Wales on St. David’s Day, 1st March.  In 2009, ex-BR ‘Britannia’ Class 4-6-2 70013 ‘Oliver Cromwell’ operated the ‘St. David’s Day Special’ from Paddington to Newport.  Since the train could not be stabled at Newport prior to returning to London, it ran empty stock to the sidings at Cardiff.  Caught by the late afternoon sun, it is seen approaching Newport as it returns with the empty stock for the return to London.
