Registered as a charity on the Isle of Man the group was founded in 1966 to safeguard the future of the unique Isle of Man Railway which at that time still served the city of Peel in the west of the island and Ramsey in the north; these two lines were closed for good in September 1968 but happily the picturesque south line to the village of Port Erin remains open today.
